Welcome to the website of the National Laboratory on Human Reproduction (NLHR) for all our readers (researchers, doctors, patients, couples expecting a child, students and everyone else).

NLHR was established by the Hungarian government in 2021 to focus on innovative research and treatment of human reproductive disorders. The national laboratory is made up of staff from different institutes of several faculties of the University of Pécs (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy) and several clinics of the Clinical Centre (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Urology, 1st Department of Internal Medicine). The main centre for clinical research is the Centre for Infertility at the University of Pécs, while the Szentágothai Research Centre provides a wide range of natural science research methods. More than 100 staff members are engaged in research and development at NLHR. The NLHR receives first from Hungarian funds and then from European RRF funds a total of HUF 3.7 billion (10 million EUR) in research funding over 4 years.

NLHR has professional relations with several Hungarian and international (46) universities, research organizations, the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry, especially Richter Gedeon Pharmaceuticals. In the past 3 years, 61 PhD students and young researchers have been active in research for a longer or shorter period. We are involved in the implementation of national and international grant proposals. Since the beginning of the research work, 118 scientific publications have been published, including 54 publications in the most prestigious journals (D1, Q1). To date, the national laboratory has filed 8 international patent and other industrial property applications.

Our research motto: Don't even touch the embryo! This is to say that we only carry out studies and research directions in which the protection of human life and the embryo is fully guaranteed, i.e. studies that comply with the highest international ethical standards.

Please read the reports of our colleagues with the same enthusiasm with which they are working for the birth of the next healthy generation!
